Ashok' s extend ed family incl udes his wife Rad ha (Shaban a Azmi) , his b rother Ja tin (Javed Jaffrey), their ailing mother Biji (Kus hal Rek hi) and their manservant Mund u (Ranji t Chowdhry), all living under the same roof. Ja tin, at the insist ence of Ashok an d their mother, Biji, agrees to m arry the beautiful Sita (Nandita Das) in an arrange d marri age, al though he is ac tually in l ove with Julie (Alice Poo n), a Chine se-Indian.
